History and Kuna Handicrafts

 

History: According to history, the Community of Playon Chico established in their island in 1.850, before that year they would live deep in the jungle or as they called it “Neva Dummad” (Great Forrest).

Celebrations:

·        February 17th – 21st Commemoration of the Tule Revolution, in order to celebrate their independence of the Panamanian Government. During this holiday, visitors are invited to participate in the live dramas, and they are asked to give a voluntary contribution.

·        December 1st : Sapibenega makes a celebration for all the community of Playon Chico. If you wish to support us, clothes, toys or others are welcome and appreciated bringing joy upon our children (for this please contact our reservations office).

Beneficent Activities

Economy: Their main sources are fishing, agriculture and handicrafts, among these the most popular are the famous Molas made by women, whose sales provide them the income for the education of their children.

Language:  Their language is Kuna.

Authorities: Their chieves/leaders are called Sailas.

Gastronomy: Their typical dish is “Tulemasi” which is a sort of soup made with fish, plantain, coconut and other vegetables.
